The Of Sea and Shore Museum in Port Gamble offers visitors a chance to see the largest privately owned collection of seashells in the world! The natural history of invertebrates and mollusks are also studied by this non-profit museum. Displays include what life is like onboard an aircraft carrier, the job of submarines, and temporary exhibits like the Battle of Midway during WWII. The Blue crew of Ohio-class guided missile submarine USS Michigan (SSGN 727) conducted a change of command ceremony in the U.S. The Puget Sound Naval Museum contains over 18,000 objects from 1840 to today relating to the Naval history of the Pacific Northwest region. While you learn, enjoy exploring the science of the ocean, antique diving suits, and view submarine simulations. The museums 25000 square feet of exhibit space incorporate a display about submarines in the Pacific during World War II, as well as a recreated submarine. The Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport displays and interprets the undersea history and operations of the Navy. Through artifacts, photos, oral stories, and film, the culture and history of these tribes can be enjoyed by the community. The Suquamish Museum promotes an understanding and preservation of the Salish tribes of the Puget Sound region, with a focus on the Suquamish Tribe.
The theatre also shares a history of international puppetry and runs live puppet shows. The Aurora Valentinetti Puppet Museum features a collection of over 1,000 puppets and accessories from around the world donated by famed puppeteer Aurora Valentinetti to the Evergreen Children's Theatre. The USS Turner Joy, a 1950s-era naval destroyer, is currently open to the public at this site. The USS Turner Joy is one of 18 Forrest Sherman class destroyers from the Vietnam War era that has come to rest in Bremerton, where it was built in 1959, and now serves as a museum ship. Other submarine museums in the area include the Naval Undersea Museum, which is located in Keyport, Washington, and the Submarine Force Museum, which is located in Groton, Connecticut.
The Kitsap County Historical Society and Museum exhibits the cultural history of Kitsap County through many artifacts, photos, educational displays, and a replica Main Street from 1919.
